Attention Telecommunications Providers: Notification of Lakewood Business and Occupation (B&O) Tax Refund
The City of Lakewood, Colorado, has announced that Telecommunication Companies may be eligible for a Business & Occupation (B&O) Tax Refund related to B&O taxes paid to the City. The City has attempted to contact all eligible businesses via certified mail and through its tax collection system, Lakewood Business Pro. Notice was mailed to the company’s Registered Agent in Colorado or the last address provided to the Secretary of State.
THE CITY IS PROVIDING THIS PUBLIC NOTICE AS A LAST ATTEMPT BEFORE ENDING THE REFUND PROCESS.
What You Need to Know
- Who Qualifies?
Companies that provide telecommunications services to individuals or businesses within the City of Lakewood. These companies were subject to the Municipal B&O tax code and may have paid B&O tax between January 1, 2018, and November 30, 2025.
- Who Does Not Qualify? Companies that did not remit B&O Tax to the City of Lakewood. Individual telecommunications subscribers.
- Why the Refund?
The Colorado Supreme Court ruled that the City must refund B&O taxes collected, per the Colo. Const. art. X § 20(1).
- Refund Period:
Claims for tax refunds may be filed up to April 30, 2026.

Examine prior B&O filings for the City of Lakewood. If you remitted taxes under the City’s B&O Tax during January 1, 2018, and November 30, 2025, complete step 2.
