2026 Drought
Summer Water Rules
Water is always a limited, precious resource in semi-arid Colorado. Conserving water not only saves you money, it's just the right thing to do.
Denver Water sells water to nearly 20 water providers within Lakewood, serving more than 143,000 residents. These providers generally follow Denver Water's rules.
Your water provider may impose more restrictive rules and may levy fines for violations of the rules. If you have questions about the rules and possible fines that apply to your water use, contact your water provider. Enter your address into the My Neighborhood portal to find your provider.
Stage 1 drought declared - updated 3/27/26
Denver Water recently declared a Stage 1 drought, and most of the water districts serving Lakewood residents receive their water from Denver Water. The districts are also in Denver Water’s service area and follow Denver Water’s watering restrictions. Those restrictions limit watering to two days a week as determined by your address, and watering on those days can only occur from 6 p.m. to 10 a.m. Keep automatic sprinkler systems off until mid-to-late May. Hand-water trees and shrubs if needed. Please review Denver Water’s summer watering rules, and contact your local water district provider for additional details.
