W. 20th Avenue – Vance to Teller streets

Project Description
The traffic signal at the intersection of W. 20th Avenue and Teller Street will be replaced, and new sidewalk and ADA compliant curb ramps will be added on the south side of W. 20th Avenue from west of Vance Street to east of Teller Street to connect the sidewalk gap in this area. Storm sewer pipes will also be added to help mitigate drainage issues in the area.

February 2026 Update

Recently Completed Work
Retaining walls have been installed on the south side of 20th Avenue west of Teller Street, and traffic signal caissons have been installed at the intersection.

Current Work
Construction of the storm sewer pipe is ongoing and will extend through February. Current storm sewer construction is north of W. 20th Avenue, between Vance Street and Upham Street, and will extend towards W. 20th Avenue in the coming weeks. Utility companies will also be relocating their overhead fiber optic lines at the W. 20th Avenue and Teller Street intersection.

Upcoming Work
Work will begin in the coming weeks to construct the proposed poles and traffic signals at the intersection of W. 20th Avenue and Teller Street. Overhead utility relocations will continue through the early weeks of February.

Traffic Impacts
Traffic control will include intermittent lane closures at the intersection of W. 20th Avenue and Teller Street to facilitate the traffic signal construction and utility relocations. Beginning early to mid-February, storm sewer construction will begin along West 20th Avenue and additional traffic control will be installed to provide a safe working area for the contractor. Two lanes of traffic will remain open during this phase of construction. A temporary, single-day, lane closure of the westbound lane is expected the week of 02/09 - 02/13 to accommodate exploratory excavations of the existing Denver Water main. Flaggers will be posted to maintain traffic in both directions during this closure.

Target Project Completion
Major construction activities on the roadway are expected to be completed in early Winter 2026. Final site restorations and landscaping will then occur in the Spring of 2026. Significant lane closures should be completed by this time, but periodic lane closures may occur to allow the contractor to access elements along the roadway.
