Next date: Thursday, March 19, 2026 | 05:30 PM to 07:30 PM

emergency supplies including a backpack, radio and bandages

Join Lakewood’s Sustainable Neighborhoods, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), and Sustainability Division for an introductory workshop on planning for emergency preparedness at home. Disasters like heavy snow, wildfire, floods, and power outages can make us feel unsafe and a lack of control. Learn how to prepare for these events ahead of time to increase personal resilience when they do happen.

This workshop will feature speaker Rich Poulter, Lakewood’s CERT program manager, to share

  • an overview of the types of emergencies we experience in Colorado
  • home safety tips (including how to use a fire extinguisher)
  • what to do in the event of an evacuation
  • how to pack an emergency preparedness kit or “go-bag”
  • where to find additional resources.

Bring your questions and topic suggestions for future emergency preparedness workshops!

A light dinner and kids’ activities will be provided.
