The Ad Hoc Committee for the establishment of a permanent Police Committee is a temporary advisory body created by the Lakewood City Council to recommend the structure and framework for a future permanent committee focused on transparency, community collaboration, accountability, and oversight. The Committee is composed of well qualified community members selected to support meaningful dialogue and elevate diverse community perspectives, including those of systemically marginalized community members. A trauma informed facilitator supports the Committee’s discussions to ensure a welcoming environment and to help guide conversations with care, safety, and respect. The Committee reviews existing policies and accountability structures, gathers community input, and develops recommendations for a permanent oversight committee that strengthens trust and collaboration throughout the community
