All property owners will receive their annual bill after January 15, 2026. Single-family and duplex homeowners will receive an annual bill of $89.88.  Property owners will have 150 days to pay their bill.

On August 11, 2025, the City Council approved Resolution R-2025-47(PDF, 278KB), establishing the Stormwater Management Utility Service Charge at $0.0033289 per month for each square foot of impervious area.

For single-family and duplex properties, an average impervious area of 2,250 square feet is used for billing purposes.

Calculation:

$0.0033289 x 2,250 = $7.49 per month

This results in an annual stormwater bill of $89.88 for 2026.

All other property owners in Lakewood, including townhomes, city and other government buildings, and nonprofit organizations, will be billed annually based on $7.49 per month for every 2,250 square feet of impervious area on the property. For example, a large, big box store with 481,600 square feet of impervious area will receive a bill of $19,234.32 (481,600/2250 = 214 x $7.49 = $1,602.86 per month x 12 months = annual bill of $19,234.32).

Stormwater Management

  • Runoff from rain and melted snow enters the city's stormwater drainage system consisting of miles of gulches, ditches and underground pipes.
  • Managing, maintaining and improving this drainage system prevents and reduces flooding.
  • Stormwater funnels through the storm drainage system directly to streams, rivers and lakes.

Runoff from significant storms can cause flooding in Lakewood that affects homeowners, businesses, roads, public facilities and private property. The city’s stormwater management utility serves these purposes:

  • Protect lives and the environment.
  • Decrease frequency and severity of flooding.
  • Reduce damage to homes, businesses and private property.
  • Protect city streets, recreational trails, parks and other community assets that can affect everyone in the city if flooding damages or destroys them.
  • Improve water quality.
  • Comply with federal and state Clean Water laws.
