Project DescriptionGroundwater along W. Calahan Avenue has been flowing across sidewalks and into the curb and gutter between S. Upham Street and S. Pierce Street. The city has designed a storm sewer system to redirect this water away from the street. The work is intended to reduce recurring maintenance needs and icing conditions that can make neighborhood sidewalks and streets difficult to use.
November 2026 Update
Recently Completed WorkThe storm sewer design has been selected as the preferred approach. Final investigations have also confirmed the locations of sanitary sewer services serving nearby homes. Knowing where these existing connections are located supports planning for construction around underground utilities.
Current and Upcoming WorkThe next step is to seek new construction bids for work in 2027; an active construction start date has not been identified.
Traffic ImpactsThe sidewalk on the north side of W. Calahan Avenue, from S. Quay Street to S. Upham Street, remains closed. Please respect the closure and use an available open route.
Target Project CompletionConstruction is projected to take about two months. This is an estimated duration, not a calendar completion date. We will communicate a start date and completion target after the project is rebid in 2027.
