Reusable Building Material Pickup Service
The City of Lakewood has partnered with local Colorado nonprofit, Resource Central, to launch a Reusable Building Material Pickup Service — a new offering in our community designed to keep valuable building materials out of the landfill by giving them a second life in Colorado homes.
Resource Central will now conduct free pickups of eligible building materials in Lakewood. Donated items will be transported to their reuse outlet in Boulder and resold to community members at affordable prices.
This program supports the City’s Zero Waste goal by making reuse more convenient and accessible to community members, keeping valuable materials in the local economy and out of the landfill, and increasing availability of affordable, high quality, second-hand home improvement materials.
Who is Eligible for Pickup Services?
Resource Central encourages inquiries from contractors, remodelers, property managers, suppliers, manufacturers, warehouses, and businesses with substantial quantities of reusable materials. Residents are welcome to participate as well if they have qualifying materials at high volumes.
What is Eligible for Pickup?
To maximize conservation impact and make the best use of limited nonprofit resources, Resource Central currently prioritizes larger, high-value donations that can be readily reused.
Examples include:
• Complete kitchen cabinet sets and kitchen remodel materials
• Household appliances in good working condition
• Large quantities of lumber or sheet goods
• Structural wood or steel beams
• Palletized landscape stone, pavers, and other hardscape materials
• Materials from whole-home renovations or major remodeling projects
• Overstock or palletized building materials from suppliers and businesses
• Commercial shelving, pallet racking, industrial worktables, tools, and equipment in good condition
Please note, this is not a junk removal service. Resource Central’s goal is to give used materials a second life, which is the standard by which they determine eligibility. All items must be in good, working condition. Broken, heavily damaged, or otherwise not-resale-worthy goods will not be accepted.
What Can be Donated Onsite Instead?
If Resource Central determines that your donation does not qualify for a home pick up at this time, they also accept a broad range of reusable building materials through direct drop-off at its Boulder reuse facility, located at 6400 Arapahoe Rd. Donations are accepted Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

FAQs
I thought there was a dedicated day for home pickups?
Resource Central's pilot pickup day program ran from January to May of 2026 and has concluded. However, pickup service remains available on a rolling basis throughout the year for qualifying materials from large volume projects. Because Resource Central's reuse facility is located in Boulder, pickups in Lakewood are evaluated on a case-by-case basis, with priority given to larger donations that offer significant reuse value and landfill diversion potential. This approach helps Resource Central maximize its environmental impact while managing transportation and operational costs.
Can I drop off my donations to Resource Central’s facility instead? Yes. Call ahead or email to make sure the items are acceptable for donation.
Are there other organizations who offer this service? Habitat for Humanity Restore also offers free material pickup services in the Denver Metro area and Lakewood residents may continue to use their services at will. Resource Central’s designated Lakewood Pickup Days are another opportunity for residents to conveniently choose reuse through a local organization.
Is this the same organization that offers the Garden in a Box program? Yes. Lakewood partners with Resource Central on many of the City’s water conservation programs.
