Bike Parking

Bike rack outside of a buiding

Part of riding a bicycle for transportation is knowing where to safely story your bicycle once you arrive. Short-term bike parking is required of most developers by Lakewood’s zoning ordinance without many specific guidelines beyond capacity and minimum security, so there are a wide variety of bike racks available throughout the city. Though most of these racks are on private property and are owned by the adjacent business or property owner rather than by the city, they are still an important public amenity.

In an attempt to track—and ideally pave the way to improve—bike parking throughout Lakewood, transportation staff and volunteers inventoried all existing publicly accessible bike racks in the fall of 2024. This inventory has been used to create an online interactive map of bike parking throughout the city as a resource for residents who want to plan for their arrival when bicycling for transportation. Please continue reading below for information on the most common types of bike racks in Lakewood, a table breaking down how they are graded in the inventory and a link to the interactive bike parking map.

More information on Lakewood’s recommendations surrounding bike parking can be found in Appendix D of the Lakewood Bicycle Plan.
