Year-Round Art Showcase: INSPIRE Arts Lakewood
For more than a decade, INSPIRE Arts Lakewood has championed the city’s vibrant creative scene — even earning a Governor’s Award in 2016. Traditionally, each summer featured a concentrated burst of free and low-cost cultural experiences at more than 20 galleries, shops and venues. After nearly 12 years in this format, the program has evolved to reflect a new belief: Lakewood’s culture shouldn’t be limited to a single season.
Moving forward, INSPIRE Arts Lakewood will highlight the work of its partners year-round through social media and web promotion. This shift creates a deeper connection between the community and the cultural practitioners who make Lakewood a colorful place to live and visit.
To kick off this year-round initiative, the city’s Heritage, Culture & the Arts facilities will host free exhibitions and activities throughout the summer. An interactive Art Drop will be hosted in late June, inviting the public to navigate clues posted on the event website and Lakewood Cultural Center’s social media pages to find pieces from local artists hidden around the city. A public reception will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on May 29 to celebrate the opening of several new shows:
• Complexity | Textile and woven arts | Lobby and Corner Galleries
• Amazar Tales | Sculptures created from reclaimed and upcycled materials | North Gallery
• The Colorado Watercolor Society State Exhibition | Juried watermedia by beginning to expert artists | Mezzanine Gallery
• Plein Air Buddies | Watercolor paintings inspired by local landscapes | Richey Gallery
There’s no better time to discover the creativity that continues to shape Lakewood’s cultural identity.
